On June 20, we organized a scientific seminar titled “Process Control: Applications in a Chemical Industry”. Lief Krister Forsman, who is with Perstorp Speciality Chemicals and Norwegian University of Science and Technology, led the seminar, which was organized within the framework of the FrontSeat project as part of the “Research Seminar on Smart Cybernetics” series.

Abstract:
We show with concrete examples how concepts from advanced control can create value in the chemical industry. Some of these methods are well known from various textbooks, e.g. ratio control and mid-ranging (VPC), while others are only poorly documented in the literature, e.g. bidirectional control and split-parallel control. The common theme is that you can achieve many improvements without resorting to model based control, such as MPC. We will also give a short review of the relative advantages of classical control compared to MPC.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon under grant no. 101079342 (Fostering Opportunities Towards Slovak Excellence in Advanced Control for Smart Industries).
