In this blog post, Nora Lindner, a PhD student at Ruhr University Bochum and a member of the FrontSeat Project, shares insights from her recent research visit to the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava. During her stay at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics, Nora deepened ongoing collaborations, advanced a joint research paper, and delivered a seminar on model predictive control. Beyond the academic exchange, she reflects on the welcoming environment, inspiring discussions, and the personal highlights that made her return to Bratislava both professionally and personally fulfilling.
In February and March, I had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics at the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava for two separate two-week periods as part of the FrontSeat Project. This visit was my second research stay in Bratislava and has left me with a lot of new and inspiring ideas for further research.
During my previous visit to STU Bratislava, Juraj Holaza, Juraj Oravec, and I laid the groundwork for a paper on quadcopter altitude control using model predictive control with online constraint removal. This paper has been accepted for presentation at the Process Control Conference 2025. Building on this success, I delivered a seminar on the same topic and discussed future research prospects during my current visit, which sparked productive discussions. Throughout my stay, we focused on the consideration of disturbances in Constraint Removal in linear MPC, further advancing our research in this field.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Juraj Holaza for the inspiring and helpful discussions, and to all my colleagues at STU Bratislava for the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks go out to Diana Dzurková for taking me to lunch and showing me the nicest cafes. Exploring the old town and visiting my favourite places, as well as discovering new ones, added a delightful balance to my intense research schedule.

This research exchange has left me not only enriched with new knowledge but also motivated and with a renewed perspective on my work. I eagerly look forward to engaging in the many exciting possibilities that have emerged from this collaboration and hope to visit again soon.
