On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM, students of the course “Automatic Control Theory 3” at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, STUBA, attended a guest lecture hosted as part of the master’s program curriculum. The topic was Cybersecurity in Industrial Applications, delivered by Ing. Marián Filka from Siemens. The session provided an insightful look into current cybersecurity requirements in the industrial sector, focusing on legislative changes, practical applications, and Siemens’ role in this critical field.

The lecture covered the new EU NIS2 directive, which sets cybersecurity requirements for critical industries such as energy, water management, and transportation. It included practical case studies on implementing these requirements, emphasizing Siemens’ role in factory and process automation through PLCs, TIA Portal, and digital twins. Ing. Filka also discussed IEC 62443 standards for critical infrastructure and the multi-layered approach to cybersecurity, including plant security, network security, and system integrity, showcasing how these principles are applied in various industrial settings.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon under grant no. 101079342 (Fostering Opportunities Towards Slovak Excellence in Advanced Control for Smart Industries).
