Over the past four months, Ján Boldocký, a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Automation, Informatization, and Measurement at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STUBA), embarked on an enriching research exchange at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). This exchange took place under the project FrontSeat, hosted by the Chair of Automatic Control and Systems Theory. Here, Ján shares his experiences and insights from his time in Bochum.

Participating in the FrontSeat project provided me with the invaluable opportunity to immerse myself in a multi-month research stint at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) in Germany. At the beginning of my stay, I introduced my research topic to the group through a brief presentation. This initial engagement sparked further discussions, leading us to identify multiple potential areas for joint research.

The conclusion of my exchange was marked by an internal presentation where I shared the results of my four-month research. I worked on three different topics, with a notable highlight being the successful completion of the project titled “Neural Ordinary Differential Equation-Based Reduced Order Model of a Circular Impinging Jet using Shear Stress Measurements.”

Beyond the academic realm, exploring the cultural side of the Ruhr region significantly enriched my stay. I had the chance to visit historical heritage sites, indulge in local cuisine, and participate in various team-building activities. These experiences offered a delightful blend of professional growth and cultural immersion.

This research exchange has been a pivotal experience in my academic journey, broadening my horizons and fostering valuable collaborations. I am grateful to the project FrontSeat and both partner universities for this enriching opportunity.

Collaboration on ongoing research topics continues remotely, however, I eagerly anticipate the next opportunity to visit RUB again in the future.
