Nora Lindner, a PhD student at Ruhr University Bochum, visited the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics (STUBA) from June 6 until July 12, 2024. Read a blog written by Nora about her experience in Bratislava.

In June, I had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics at the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava for four weeks as part of the FrontSeat Project. This visit was a valuable experience in my academic journey, especially as a first-year Ph.D. student.

At the start of my stay, I gave a presentation outlining the current state of my research. This presentation led to productive discussions and helped us pinpoint some promising areas for joint research. I was fortunate to collaborate with experienced researchers whose expertise and guidance were invaluable to me. Their willingness to share their knowledge provided me with a great learning experience, for which I am very grateful.

During my time at STU, I worked on two projects that closely aligned with my research interests. These projects not only contribute to my academic development but also hold great potential for future joint publications. I am excited and motivated to continue our work together.

Beyond the academic benefits, my colleagues in Bratislava were thoughtful in making my stay enjoyable and memorable. They warmly welcomed me and introduced me to some of the best local restaurants – hidden gems that only locals would know. We also explored the city’s charming cafes, where we spent time together outside of work. They also gave me excellent tips on what to see in my free time, and I had a great time exploring the city.

This research exchange has left me not only enriched with new knowledge but also motivated and with a renewed perspective on my work. I am eagerly looking forward to engaging in the many exciting possibilities that have emerged from this collaboration.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues at STU Bratislava for their warmth, hospitality, and enriching professional experience. I am deeply appreciative of everything they did to ensure my productive and enjoyable stay.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon under grant no. 101079342 (Fostering Opportunities Towards Slovak Excellence in Advanced Control for Smart Industries).
