On November 14, the FrontSeat Industry Council for Cybernetics met at the fourth “Academia Meets Industry” seminar at STUBA’s Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology in Bratislava.
“Academia Meets Industry” seminars are activities aimed to stimulate discussion between academia and industry managers and practitioners. We believe in the need for the industry to play an active role in this discussion to help shape the academic research agenda that would reflect their pressing and emerging issues. Prof. František Duchoň and Prof. Miroslav Fikar kicked off the seminar, warmly welcoming participants and emphasizing the objectives and importance of fostering synergy between academia and industry. Setting the tone for the discussions, laying out the objectives and importance of industry-academia synergy.
The seminar continued with an overview, setting the stage for discussions on the council’s direction and future objectives.
An invitation was extended to industrial partners to actively participate in the upcoming 25th International Conference on Process Control 2025. Their involvement is encouraged to enrich discussions, share industry insights, and foster deeper collaboration with the academic community.
An assessment of student projects was also conducted, with council members evaluating recent student contributions to the field. This exercise offered an opportunity to showcase student work and provide feedback on ways to further enhance practical learning experiences. A review of student projects provided insight into academic achievements and allowed industry members to offer feedback based on practical needs.
The participants enjoyed an engaging guided tour through several advanced laboratories at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics. This experience allowed them to explore modern research facilities and observe various ongoing student projects.
Researchers shared demonstrations and offered in-depth explanations, highlighting the practical applications of their work in process control, automation, and information engineering. The tour not only showcased the institute’s capabilities but also sparked discussions on potential industry collaborations and innovative research directions.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon under grant no. 101079342 (Fostering Opportunities Towards Slovak Excellence in Advanced Control for Smart Industries).
