As part of the FrontSeat project, we had the opportunity to engage with peers, present our latest research, and explore potential collaborations for future projects, and much more. We presented four research papers, highlighting our latest findings covering a range of topics within process engineering which were well-received by the international audience.

Highlights from ESCAPE 34/PSE 24 in Florence, Italy

The ESCAPE (European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering) and PSE (Process Systems Engineering) conferences are key events for professionals in the field of process engineering. This year, ESCAPE 34/PSE 24 took place from June 2-6, 2024, in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy, bringing together experts, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss the latest advancements and trends in the field.

We are also proud to announce that Professor Miroslav Fikar served as a chairperson for the Process Control and Operations section, which covered the following areas:

  • Scheduling, Planning, and Operability
  • Flexibility and Optimization under Uncertainty
  • Supply-Chains Optimization and Logistics
  • Advances in Process Control
  • Real-Time Optimization
  • Model Predictive Control
  • Process Monitoring and Safety

The section was coordinated by prominent experts in the field, including Professor Michael Baldea (USA), Professor Sebastian Engell (Germany), and Professor Sigurd Skogestad (Norway).

Jozef Vargan (STUBA) presented the paper:
Vargan Jozef, Puk Jakub, Lubusky Karol, Fikar Miroslav: STEADY-STATE OPTIMALITY ANALYSIS OF MPC CONTROLLERS

Rastislav Fáber (STUBA) presented the paper:
Fáber Rastislav, Mojto Martin, Ľubušký Karol, Paulen Radoslav: FROM DATA TO ALARMS: DATA-DRIVEN ANOMALY DETECTION TECHNIQUES IN INDUSTRIAL SETTINGS

Matej Ružička (STUBA) presented the paper:
Ružicka Matej, Helgeland Ingrid, Paulen Radoslav: MODELLING AND SIMULATION OF A FORWARD OSMOSIS PROCESS

Marco Vaccari (UNIPI) resented the paper:
Guastaferro Mariangela, Marchetti Letizia, Vaccari Marco, Nicolella Cristiano, Tognotti Leonardo: REVITALIZING PLASTIC WASTE WITH PYROLYSIS: A UNISIM DESIGN© SIMULATION CASE STUDY FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION FROM CAR FLUFF

The full papers were published in the 34th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering / 15th International Symposium on Process Systems Engineering ESCAPE-34/PSE2024 1st Edition, Volume 53, 2024, Editors: Flavio Manenti, G.V. Rex Reklaiti, and are available within the ZENODO platform.
